Since my favorite chin gal died of bloat 8 years ago, I have been very cautious when my chins have small poos. I have a few cases of small poos or constipation problems in our boarding pets . Please dont underestimate this problem, it can so easily lead to GI Stasis and gut stopped in a very short time. The chances of survival is so slim when the gut just stopped working….and the pet will be gone.
What to do if your chins is constipated or have very small poos?
Generally, when you hold your chin or during play time, there should be flows of poos dropping from them. Watch out if you didnt see any or very little poos. What u need to do?! U could Stop all treats and pellets and feed lots of hays for fiber for 1-3 days or syringe feed critical care if necessary. If there is still no improvement, and poos are as small as hamster poos. A vet visit is required.
NOTE: Pumpkin (canned pumpkin) not only can help firm up loose poo but it can also help loosen poo during constipation. the high water content and the high fiber make this happen, the fiber to absorb water and help tighten loose poo and the water content and fiber to help constipation.
If the animal is constipated (dehydrated) the fiber will pull water into the colon and prevent water from being absorbed to help move things along.
If the animal has diarrhea, the high water content and the high fiber make this happen, the fiber to absorb water and help tighten loose poo.
It’s really the fiber that’s the important thing, as the water is usually absorbed from the colon, unless there is something pulling the water back in. And you could sucked up smashed Pumpkin in a syringe.
